Creu—Welsh for "create"—is central to Ty Clai. Our studio provides a space for exploration, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced potter.

Each year, our workshops explore a specific theme. This year, we focus on Welsh vernacular landscapes and architecture. Led by skilled designers and ceramicists, our workshops blend design, sketching, and clay work in small, relaxed groups.

These half-day sessions provide an introduction to pottery tools and techniques; hand-building, wheel throwing, and moulding. Learn the fundamentals of pottery and leave with crafted pieces as a lasting memory of your visit.

Welsh Vernaculars

A design-led ceramics workshop exploring the forms and textures of Welsh vernacular architecture.

Over a relaxed four-hour session, you'll create a lantern inspired by traditional Welsh cottages, using premium stoneware clay and guided hand-building techniques.

Set in the Tŷ Clai studio, the workshop includes clay preparation, sketching, and making, with a focus on materiality, detail, and place.

All materials and firings are included. Morning sessions include tea and cake; evening sessions a glass of wine. Your finished piece will be glazed, fired, and ready for collection in 2–3 weeks.
